Bret Michaels at the House of Blues
By Revn Kevin
The House of Blues on Sunset recently hosted a sold-out solo show for Bret Michaels, the star of film and front man for superstar band Poison. Bret is touring In support of his new CD "Songs of Life" and tonight's set was a mixture of the new material and select Poison hits.
The opening act was American Anthem, which is also Bret's supporting band. They play a fairly straight up style of rock and band members include Cliff Calabro/guitar, Christy Calabro/guitar, Steve Frangadakis/guitar, Joe Andriaccio/bass, and John Medina/drums. The band was tight and had a fun abbreviated stage show, which consisted of a couple originals and some covers.
After a short intermission, Bret Michaels hit the stage and worked the crowd for a good 2 hours. Being the great showman that he is the show was lively and energetic in places and seriously passionate in others. Tunes that everybody knew from his Poison material included "Every Rose" and "Talk Dirty to Me". Bret also played a lot of material from the new CD and a couple of the new songs that grabbed me were the great rockers "Menace to Society" and "Party Rock Band". The standout song on the new CD has to be the ballad "Raine", a beautiful tribute to Bret's daughter. Hopefully radio stations will pick up on this one and get it into rotation.
Judging from the crowd the show was definitely a hit and the new material is right up their alleys. The new CD is on Poor Boy Records and available in most record stores or you can get it directly by visiting www.bretmichaels.com. Here you can also find out all the latest information about the man himself including Bio. and Tour news.
