As the year comes to a close I look back and think about what was the best event of 2002. I have to say it was the 100th Anniversary Harley-Davidson Tour held at Fontana Motor Speedway. Over the course of 3 days some top line acts played and included the first performance by The Doors in 30+ years. The Cure frontman Ian Asbury is filling in admirably in place of the late Jim Morrison and gave a dynamic performance. Other major acts included personal favorites Stone Temple Pilots along with: Billy Idol, Nickleback, Journey, The Doobie Brothers, Default and Kid Rock.

Along with the bands there were displays of all the new Fords and Harleys. There were also three large tents with displays by Harley-Davidson showing memorabilia pertaining to the subjects of Culture, History, and Media. In the Culture tent there were displays of clothing and tattoo art. In the Media tent there was a little theater showing movie clips featuring Harleys and a music display showing video clips of Harleys in various rock and roll videos. On display were things like Elvis's Harley and jackets worn by famous rockers such as Bon Jovi and Aerosmith. The History tent featured displays of Harleys from beginning to present and told the story of how the company started out and grew over the years. In this tent I had a little flashback in time when I saw the very first motorcycle I ever owned on display. I was 12 years old, it was a little Harley moped and they had a beautifully restored one on display. It brought back some memories for sure.

The event had a charity aspect also as Harley-Davidson C.E.O., Mr. Willie G. Davidson, made a speech in support of the Muscular Dystrophy Association to which the company is a generous donator. There was quite a diverse crowd in attendance but everybody was having a good time which shows what a great blend music and motorcycles make. By the end of the weekend I was beat but I realized that there can only be one 100th Anniversary Tour and was very happy that I was there. Go check out some of the new Harleys at www.harley-davidson.com and see what motorized heavy metal looks like these days.
