Phoenix, Montrose and Y & T
At the Galaxy Theatre
By Revn Kevin
I saw this show on the Galaxy calendar and marked it down as a must see. I am a big Montrose fan and couldn't believe that he was out and playing again. The Galaxy is a beautiful place to see a show and with a great dinner served we were ready to rock.
Opening band was Phoenix, a hard hitting blues rock group with the vibrant and energetic front lady, C. "Phoenix" Henderson, on vocals. A recent addition to the band is lead guitarist Larry Green who along with David Ownby make up for a great 2 guitar attack. Peter Pfifer on drums and Larry Cambra on bass hold down the bottom end with back-up vocals provided by Joanna "Little Stevie" Jones, nicknamed after her passion for singing Stevie Nicks tunes. The bands set consisted of originals from their "Freedom Calling" CD along with a couple of covers thrown in. They were kind enough to give me a press kit so you will here more about them in the next issue as I give it a review or check out their website at
www.phoenixrox.com.
Montrose
is doing some light touring in support of a new greatest hits CD. They hit the stage hard and never let up. Keith St. John is the vocalist and put in quite a stellar performance. "Rock Candy", "Bad Motor Scooter" and the rest of the whole set just freakin rocked. Ronnie's guitar was as crisp as ever and he looked like he was having the time of his life. Bobby Blotzer of RATT fame was pounding the drums and the whole band while recently formed were very tight as a whole. I went to www.ronnieland.com to get some information and found the site under construction so I'll be going back and checking it out later.
Y & T
are back at it again and tonight's set was very strong. These heavy metal veterans were sounding a good as ever and had the original line-up pretty much in tack. The band tells me that they are working on material for a new CD and played a few new tunes tonight. If you want to catch up on what they've been up to then check out this site. Type in your browser this address http://listen.to/yandt and you will be directed to their official fan site where you can get all the latest information on what the band is up to.The Galaxy Theater is one of the nicest venues here in So.Cal. They offer a great dinner menu at nice candlelight table so when you want to impress your lady bring here. You can see their calendar on their website at
www.galaxytheater.com and see what's coming soon.
