Queensryche's "Operation Mindcrime"
By Revn Kevin
One of the great epic concept albums is Queenryche's "Operation Mindcrime" whose plot ended with the death of character Sister Mary. For years fans have always wondered who killed the good nun. Well now the band is hard at work on the sequel, "Operation Mindcrime II", which should answer those questions and more. Scheduled for release later this year the band decided to prime the audience with a tour and a taste of the new material.
It's been 15 years since Queenryche toured with its full stage production of "Operation Mindcrime" and tonight's show at Universal Amphitheatre was the last stop on their VH1 Classic Tour. The concert was arranged in two sets with the first being a collection of greatest hits ending in their chart topper Silent Lucidity. After a short intermission the band launched into its full Operation Mindcrime set complete with actors, video screens, lights, the whole mind blowing works. They even recruited the string section from the local L.A. Philharmonic, which added a nice touch to the sound on a few numbers. The show ended with the band playing a couple of songs from the upcoming release just to tease the audience and get them anticipating its release.
The band still comprises original members Geoff Tate on vocals, Michael Wilton/guitar, Eddie Jackson/bass, Scott Rockenfield/drums and new addition guitarist Mike Stone. They were tight with a great sound and the man running the soundboard had his act together treating the audience to a clear, crisp sound to accompany the stage show. I'm looking forward to the release of the new CD and the accompanying tour and I will occasionally visit www.queensryche.com to keep updated on the newest band related info.
