Dream Theater and Yes
at Universal Amphitheatre
By Revn Kevin
If musicianship is your thing then you had to be out at Universal Amphitheatre when Dream Theater and YES came to town and gave mediocre musicians like myself a lesson in technique and tone. The latest release by John Petrucci and his fellow Dream Theater band mates is called "Live at Budokan" and you can get it as a 3 CD set or 2 DVD set or as a box set with all 5 discs. Tonight's show was an hour and half of solid awesome rocking with songs covering their whole career to date. If you want to cover their career yourself then do like I did and venture over to www.dreamtheater.net to get the story yourself.
I my mind, YES is probably the original progressive rock band. Back in the late 60's they set the musicianship standard and have maintained that same level to this day. Decades later the original lineup of Jon Anderson/vocals, Steve Howe/guitar, Chris Squire/bass, Rick Wakeman/keys and Alan White/drums play with all the intensity of men half their age. For 2 hours they played all the hits plus a lot of great new songs that I was not familiar with. To catch up on YES news I searched around and found their website at www.yesworld.com. Here I found out that there latest release is "The Ladder" and you can check out their whole disc collection for yourself.
